Professor Mohiuddin to attend Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony in honor of Muhammad Yunus

April 5, 2013

Professor Yasmeen Mohiuddin will attend the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony in honor of Professor Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Laureate, on Wednesday, April 17. Mohiuddin was invited by Speaker of the House John A. Boehner at the request of Professor Yunus.

Dr. Yunus is the founder of the world-renowned Grameen Bank of Bangladesh and is known as the father of social entrepreneurship. He is a long-time friend and colleague of Dr. Mohiuddin. Every year since 2003, Sewanee students have gone on the study abroad program to Bangladesh, which is based on experiential learning. Numerous students over the past 10 years have completed internships at the Grameen Bank. All of them have come back deeply inspired by Dr. Yunus and their experience working in this international entrepreneurial environment.

The group from the summer of 2012 are seen here with Dr. Yunus and Dr. Mohiuddin.

Dr. Mohiuddin is the Ralph Owen Distinguished Professor of Economics and has been a member of the faculty since 1981.
