Dr. Ott is an Assistant Professor of Economics at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. He has been teaching finance and economic classes there for three years. These classes include corporate finance, investments, derivatives and alternative investments, and money, banking, and financial institutions. He is also the faculty advisor to the university’s Investment Club. Prior to teaching at The University of the South, Dr. Ott worked 25 years at two Federal Home Loan Banks (Atlanta and Indianapolis). In his last position as the Vice President and Director of Financial Strategies he led a consulting group that conducted strategy workshops and educational seminars for member financial institutions. Over the 25 years, his work also included marketing research, strategic planning, interest rate risk management, and the management of a $2 billion mortgage-backed security portfolio. He has both written and lectured extensively on the subjects of interest rate risk and portfolio management. Bob earned an MA and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Maryland. He has taught economics at the University of Maryland, Emory University, and Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. In addition, Bob was a Certified Public Accountant, served on various planning committees of the Indiana CPA Society, and as Treasurer of the Greenways Foundation, a nonprofit organization that promotes the use of greenways in Central Indiana. Bob enjoys golf and running, but his first love is tennis. He is married with two children and one grandson.
